San Andreas, CA – On the evening of Wednesday, December 17, 2025, a head-on collision resulted in fatal injuries to at least one person after a white pickup truck collided with a passenger sedan, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 6:10 PM near State Route 49 and Union Mine Road.
CHP logs indicate the crash involved a pickup truck and a four-door sedan and was immediately classified as a severe traffic collision. Authorities reported that at least one occupant was trapped inside a vehicle, prompting a fire department response and emergency extrication efforts, including breaking a window to access the interior.
All lanes of State Route 49 were blocked for an extended period as first responders worked the scene, rendered aid, and coordinated with additional agencies. Towing services and Caltrans were notified to assist with vehicle removal, roadway safety, and traffic control measures.
Officials documented the scene and managed traffic until the roadway was fully cleared. Authorities later confirmed that all lanes were reopened by approximately 8:24 PM as the investigation into the circumstances of the fatal collision continued.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
