Fresno County, CA. – In the late afternoon of Monday, December 15, 2025, a collision involving a big rig and a pedestrian resulted in a fatality, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 4:19 PM along State Route 166 near Soda Lake Road.
Authorities said a pedestrian was walking on the roadway when a big rig struck them. The collision caused the pedestrian to lose their life. Officials noted that the intersection and sun glare in the area may have contributed to visibility issues leading to the crash.
The incident also involved a gray Honda Civic that had been stopped on the right-hand shoulder when the collision occurred. All parties involved were immobilized, and traffic was blocked in the westbound lanes as crews worked to clear the scene.
Fire and road personnel coordinated with Caltrans to manage traffic control and maintain a one-way flow through the area while the investigation continued. The coroner was notified, and CHP officials said the roadway remained partially closed for several hours as authorities completed their work.
No additional details about the pedestrian or the big rig driver were released, and the investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains ongoing.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver evade authorities, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
