Kern County, CA – On the evening of Sunday, December 14, 2025, a two-vehicle crash on State Route 14 near Backus Road left one person dead and multiple others injured, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident occurred around 9:28 PM on the southbound lanes of State Route 14 near Backus Road.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the collision involved a white four-door sedan that overturned and a second vehicle, described as a black sedan, which was also involved in the crash. Emergency responders found at least one person pinned in the overturned vehicle, and crews worked to free the individual and provide immediate medical aid.
The crash resulted in severe injuries for some occupants, and one person succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Multiple lanes were initially blocked as California Department of Transportation personnel assisted with lane closures and cleanup. Tow services were called to remove the damaged vehicles from the roadway.
CHP noted that the cause of the collision is still under investigation, and it is unknown if drugs, alcohol, or other factors contributed to the crash. Authorities continue to review the incident to determine the full sequence of events and identify contributing circumstances.
