US 101, Jonata Park Rd Crash Kills Driver in Santa Barbara County

Santa Barbara County, CA – On the morning of Monday, December 1, 2025, a single-vehicle crash on US 101 resulted in a fatality after the car rolled over and landed in an embankment, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 10:25 AM near the Jonata Park Road exit.

Authorities said a green Lexus traveling along the highway went off the right-hand shoulder, overturned, and came to rest in an embankment. Emergency responders arrived to find the driver trapped and suffering a head injury, requiring extrication from the vehicle.

Despite immediate efforts by first responders, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of the injuries sustained in the rollover.

CHP noted that the vehicle’s position off the roadway and limited visibility at the intersection complicated rescue efforts. The incident remains under investigation, and officials are reviewing the circumstances that led to the fatal single-vehicle collision.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
