Oakland, CA – In the early hours of Friday, November 29, 2025, a multi-vehicle crash on the northbound Interstate 880 off-ramp at 5th Avenue resulted in a fatality, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 2:37 AM on the northbound off-ramp. Initial reports indicated a three-vehicle collision, including a gray Honda Accord and two small sedans, with several vehicles coming to rest sideways and blocking multiple lanes.
Emergency responders quickly arrived on scene to assist the involved parties and secure the area. Officers conducted traffic breaks to manage vehicles approaching the crash site, and multiple lanes were temporarily blocked while first responders worked to clear the scene.
The CHP confirmed that one occupant sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Tow trucks and evidence recovery teams were dispatched to remove vehicles and gather information from the scene for the ongoing investigation.
All lanes were gradually reopened by early morning, and CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine what led to the crash and the identities of those involved.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
