Nevada County, CA – On the late morning of Wednesday, November 26, 2025, a collision between two big rigs on State Route 20 near the Rex Reservoir Road under crossing resulted in a fatality and a full highway shutdown, according to CHP Fatal.

CHP dispatch logs show the crash was first reported at 10:56 AM. Callers described two big rigs, including a tanker truck, colliding and blocking all westbound lanes. Debris was scattered across the roadway, and emergency crews were immediately requested.

Within minutes, the incident was transferred to the Grass Valley Fire Department as responders assessed the severity of the crash and the condition of those involved. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed a fatality at the scene.

Logs also noted that one big rig experienced a ruptured saddle tank, releasing an estimated 40 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway, requiring notification to emergency environmental officials.

Multiple heavy-duty tow trucks were requested to clear the disabled vehicle. The roadway remained closed for several hours as the investigation continued and crews mitigated fuel contamination.

Authorities have not yet released information about the driver who died, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
