Oakland, CA – In the early hours of Sunday, November 23, 2025, a single-vehicle collision on Interstate 580 West resulted in a fatality, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 2:37 AM near the Grand Avenue off-ramp.
Authorities said the vehicle was traveling westbound when it experienced a mechanical issue with the right front tire, causing it to leave the roadway. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP noted that the main lanes of Interstate 580 remained open while the Grand Avenue off-ramp was temporarily closed for investigation and traffic management. Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash, including vehicle condition and roadway factors.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
