San Jose, CA – In the early hours of Sunday, November 23, 2025, a single-vehicle crash on northbound State Route 99 resulted in a fatality, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:12 AM near the Arch Road off-ramp.
Authorities said a silver Toyota sedan collided with the center divide, coming to rest sideways across the No. 1 lane. A second vehicle later collided with the first and came to a stop on the right-hand shoulder. Debris from the crash scattered across multiple lanes, prompting emergency responders to close sections of the highway while they secured the scene.
The driver of the Toyota sedan was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Fire department personnel confirmed the individual did not survive. Another person involved was transported by emergency responders to a nearby hospital, though their injuries have not been detailed.
Emergency crews, including the California Department of Transportation, assisted in managing the scene, sweeping the center divide and controlling traffic. Multiple lanes were temporarily closed on both northbound and southbound sides of the highway as responders worked to remove vehicles and debris.
Authorities reported that one individual seen leaving the scene later was observed near Sunny Road. CHP officials and the San Jose Sheriff’s Office continued investigating the circumstances of the crash, and no further details regarding the condition of other individuals involved have been released.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
