Pedestrian Fatality at Redwood Rd, Lessley Ave in Oakland

Oakland, CA – On the afternoon of Tuesday, November 18, 2025, a pedestrian collision resulted in a fatality, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 4:01 PM at Redwood Road and Lessley Avenue.

Authorities said the crash involved a white Toyota pickup, which struck a pedestrian while blocking multiple lanes of traffic. Responding units arrived within minutes and closed the roadway as emergency crews evaluated the pedestrian’s condition. Officials later confirmed the individual had died from their injuries.

Fire and medical personnel were requested shortly after the impact, and the scene remained fully blocked until late afternoon while investigators documented evidence and ensured the roadway was safe. CHP advisories indicated that the southbound lanes of Redwood Road began to reopen around 4:51 PM.

By early evening, officials notified the county coroner, who responded to the scene and requested that any involved vehicles remain in place for examination. Authorities said the roadway was cleared after the coroner completed a preliminary assessment and the pedestrian was transferred under trauma protocols.

The crash remains under active investigation, and officials have not released the identity of the pedestrian or any additional details regarding the circumstances leading to the collision.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
