Sonoma County, CA – On the evening of Thursday, November 13, 2025, a two-vehicle collision resulted in a victim losing their life at the scene in Cotati, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 11:25 PM at the intersection of Stony Point Road and West Sierra Avenue.
Responders arrived to find a white sedan and an unidentified SUV blocking a southbound lane, prompting assisting drivers to pull onto the shoulder while emergency crews worked. Fire personnel conducted an extraction due to the severity of the crash, and a traffic break was initiated as responders secured the scene.
A sig alert was issued for Stony Point Road between West Sierra Avenue and Roblar Road and remained in effect for several hours as authorities investigated, coordinated medical response, and managed debris removal.
The coroner was contacted shortly after midnight, confirming that at least one person died as a result of the collision. No identifying information was provided in the traffic log.
Tow operations were coordinated through the early morning hours, and the roadway was reopened after 3:00 AM once evidence collection and safety checks were completed.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue working to determine the factors that led to the fatal crash.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
