San Jose, CA – A deadly crash involving a motorcycle and a Tesla shut down multiple lanes of southbound U.S. Highway 101 near the Tully Road east on-ramp late Monday night, November 10, 2025, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the collision took place around 8:48 PM,
Witnesses described a motorcycle colliding with another vehicle on the freeway. Moments later, both the motorcycle and a gray Tesla were reportedly engulfed in flames. Emergency crews from the San Jose Fire Department responded to extinguish the blaze and assist victims.
At least one rider was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased pending family notification. Another person may have sustained injuries, though details on their condition were not immediately available.
All southbound lanes were initially closed to allow firefighters and investigators to safely work the scene. CHP implemented a traffic break and kept all but the far-right lane closed for several hours while evidence was collected and the vehicles were towed from the roadway.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it is not yet known whether speed, impairment, or other factors contributed. Traffic was fully reopened shortly after midnight.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
