Bakersfield, CA – On the early morning of Tuesday, October 28, 2025, a head-on collision on State Route 58 near Plumwood Street claimed the life of one driver, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred around 5:42 AM involving two vehicles, a silver Chrysler 300 and a black sedan. Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage, and the collision blocked the roadway for several hours while emergency crews responded.
Authorities said the force of the impact resulted in at least one fatality, though the identity of the deceased was not immediately released. No other injuries were reported at the time, and both lanes of the roadway were temporarily closed to allow emergency personnel to secure the scene.
The California Department of Transportation and tow crews assisted in clearing the crash site, with westbound traffic temporarily shut down at the roundabout near the scene. The CHP continues to investigate the cause of the collision to determine contributing factors.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
