Fatal Crash on Cavedale Rd in Sonoma County

Sonoma County, CA – On the morning of Monday, October 20, 2025, a 79-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash along the 3000 block of Cavedale Road, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash was first reported around 8:57 AM in a mountainous area with steep terrain. Dispatchers received information that the vehicle had rolled several times down a hillside before coming to rest off the roadway.

Emergency personnel, including paramedics and an air operations unit, were dispatched to the scene. Responders arrived within minutes but determined that the driver, a 79-year-old male, had died from his injuries at the location.

Authorities notified the Sonoma County Coroner’s Office to assist with the recovery and identification process. Due to the remote setting and the position of the vehicle, a wrecker and flatbed tow truck were requested to safely remove the car from the embankment.

Officials temporarily closed portions of Cavedale Road while crews worked in the area. The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.

Single-Vehicle Fatalities

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault,  the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
