Avena, CA – On the night of Sunday, October 19, 2025, a head-on collision between two vehicles resulted in at least one fatality, according to CHP Fatal.
Emergency crews responded to reports of a serious crash on East Mariposa Road and Dodds Road shortly after 9:20 PM.
The California Highway Patrol reports that both vehicles were fully engulfed in flames when first responders arrived. The impact caused severe damage to the cars and completely blocked the roadway, forcing authorities to close the road and redirect traffic in the area.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the flames while medical personnel assessed the occupants of both vehicles. One individual suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Other occupants sustained serious injuries, though their conditions have not been released.
Investigators are reviewing the circumstances that led to the collision, including vehicle positions and potential contributing factors. The identities of those involved have not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Tow trucks later removed the damaged vehicles, and the roadway was reopened in the early hours of Monday morning. CHP continues its investigation to determine the cause of this deadly crash.
