Sonoma County, CA – On the afternoon of Saturday, September 20, 2025, a vehicle and bicycle collision left one person dead from traumatic injuries, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 1:11 PM on Old Redwood Highway, just south of Shiloh Road.
Investigators said a gray Range Rover struck a bicyclist near the intersection. The collision caused severe injuries, and emergency responders confirmed the cyclist died at the scene.
Authorities secured the area and reported that traffic continued flowing in both directions while officers managed the investigation off the roadway. They requested a tow truck for the Range Rover and later contacted the Sonoma County Coroner’s Office to respond to the site.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. Officials are working to determine how the bicyclist entered the roadway and what circumstances led to the fatal collision with the Range Rover.
Bicycle Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards bicyclists, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a bicycle accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
