Pedestrian Killed in Crash with Big Rig on State Rd in Oildale

Oildale, CA – In the early morning hours of Thursday, September 18, 2025, a pedestrian lost their life in a collision on State Road, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash took place around 1:21 AM when emergency dispatchers received reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian.

Fire crews and CHP units responded to the scene within minutes and confirmed the fatality. The incident log showed that the pedestrian remained in the roadway after the crash, which caused delays for passing drivers.

At 1:36 AM, CHP noted that the driver of a big rig had stopped at the scene and was cooperating with authorities. Firefighters and paramedics provided emergency response, but the pedestrian did not survive. Officials have not released a description of the vehicle first reported in the crash.

Later updates from CHP at 4:16 AM indicated that the roadway remained active with multiple people gathering near the scene. Reports described a female subject lying in the roadway and refusing to move for traffic while investigators worked nearby. Officers reopened the incident to manage the disturbance and ensure safety for drivers and pedestrians in the area.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the pedestrian. CHP continues to investigate the circumstances of the collision and the involvement of the big rig driver.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
