Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Sideshow Driver near I-80 Cummings Skyway Off-Ramp in Crockett

Crockett, CA – A sideshow driver reportedly struck and killed a pedestrian in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 13, 2025, according to the CHP Fatal

Multiple vehicles crashed while large crowds gathered near the Cummings Skyway off-ramp from westbound Interstate 80, adding to the danger.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident began around 3:30 AM when several sports cars blocked traffic and performed reckless stunts near the off-ramp. Witnesses told dispatchers that one driver lost control and hit a pedestrian who had been standing nearby. In the moments that followed, additional vehicles collided as drivers attempted to maneuver through the scene, creating further hazards.

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crews arrived minutes later and confirmed that the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries. Deputies from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office responded with CHP officers to disperse the crowd and restore order. Authorities closed the Pomona Street on-ramp to westbound I-80 while emergency crews worked to secure the area and assist victims of the collisions.

At 4:42 AM, officials issued a SigAlert because of the police activity and traffic disruptions. The closure remained in effect until just after 5:30 AM when CHP cleared the ramp and reopened all lanes. Investigators continue to search for the driver who struck the pedestrian and to determine how the sideshow escalated into a deadly crash.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
