Los Altos, CA – In the early hours of Sunday, September 14, 2025, a two-vehicle collision on the southbound State Route 85 off-ramp at Fremont Avenue left one person dead, according to CHP Fatal.
The crash was first reported around 3:40 AM when a Tesla overturned onto its driver’s side after colliding with another sedan near the off-ramp. A white Honda Civic was later found on its side, and debris from both vehicles blocked the ramp. Fire crews and paramedics arrived within minutes to provide aid, but one individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers closed the Fremont Avenue off-ramp while tow trucks worked to remove the wrecked vehicles and crews cleared debris. Caltrans was also requested to replace a damaged traffic sign that had been knocked down in the collision.
The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office responded shortly before 6:00 AM to take over the investigation of the fatality. By 8:19 AM, officials reopened the ramp after recovery and cleanup operations were complete. CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash and the circumstances that led to the fatality.
