Leavitt Meadows, CA – On the morning of Thursday, September 11, 2025, a fatal big rig rollover shut down part of State Route 108 near the Leavitt Meadows Pack Station, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the crash took place just west of Leavitt Meadows along a sharp curve south of the roadway around 7:00 AM.
Officers confirmed that a big rig truck had rolled over, blocking the highway. Emergency responders, including Caltrans, were immediately dispatched to assist with the closure and to manage traffic in the remote mountain area.
Authorities confirmed that one person died as a result of the crash. Another individual outside the truck suffered a shoulder injury.
Caltrans closed State Route 108 between mile markers 5 and 7 for several hours. Crews set up changeable message signs to warn drivers about the accident ahead. By 12:50 PM, Caltrans reported that all lanes had reopened.
CHP noted that the vehicle involved would be taken for evidence and escorted back to Silver State, Nevada. Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the rollover. The name of the deceased has not been released.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
