SR-4, Bailey Rd On-Ramp Crash Kills Pedestrian in Bay Point

Bay Point, CA – In the early hours of Sunday, August 30, 2025, a fatal pedestrian collision occurred on the eastbound State Route 4 on-ramp at Bailey Road, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol and Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office logs show that the first report came in around 12:49 AM when a male pedestrian was spotted walking against traffic on the right-hand shoulder.

Responding deputies and the Contra Costa County Fire Department arrived within minutes. Emergency personnel found the pedestrian lying in the middle lane between lanes one and two. Despite efforts to secure the scene and provide assistance, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities initiated a SigAlert to warn drivers of the lane closures, which affected all eastbound lanes temporarily. Multiple deputies and CHP officers maintained a traffic break to prevent further collisions and ensure first responders could work safely. Investigators noted debris from the crash, including parts from the undercarriage of a vehicle, and evidence towing was requested to clear the scene.

Officials are actively investigating the circumstances of the collision. At this time, authorities have not released the pedestrian’s identity and continue to gather information regarding the cause of the incident.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
