Central, Santa Clara Ave Crash Kills 2 in Oxnard

Oxnard, CA – On the early morning of Sunday, August 24, 2025, a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Central Avenue and Santa Clara Avenue resulted in two fatalities, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the crash happened around 6:06 AM when a gray sedan and a white truck collided in the intersection. Dispatch logs noted that both vehicles had been reported for reckless driving before the collision.

Responders arrived quickly and found major damage to both vehicles. Emergency crews determined that two people inside a Chevrolet County vehicle showed no signs of responsiveness and did not survive. Authorities confirmed the fatalities at approximately 6:26 AM.

Traffic closures affected the surrounding area for much of the morning and early afternoon. Officials shut down Central Avenue in both directions between Rose Avenue and Beardsley Avenue.

They also closed Santa Clara Avenue southbound at Highway 118 and restricted northbound Santa Clara traffic to right turns only toward eastbound Central Avenue. Authorities directed drivers to use Beardsley Avenue and Wright Road as alternate routes.

Responders coordinated with Ventura County deputies, county road crews, and towing companies throughout the investigation. County road crews managed traffic signs and cones until closures lifted around 1:44 PM. CHP reported that all lanes reopened shortly after.

Investigators have not released the identities of the deceased. Officials will continue reviewing evidence to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal crash.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.  Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance.
