Genevra, CA – On the morning of Wednesday, August 20, 2025, a single-vehicle crash caused one fatality and multiple serious injuries, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:50 AM on the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near the Hahn Road off-ramp.
Dispatch logs indicate that a white pickup truck traveled through the center divide before crashing onto the right-hand shoulder of the highway. Witnesses described seeing the vehicle move through a cloud of dust, go airborne, and come to rest on a canal embankment near the roadway.
Emergency responders from Williams Fire Department and paramedics reached the scene within minutes. Crews found one occupant ejected from the vehicle and another two possibly trapped inside. First responders used specialized equipment to free the injured passengers while also providing advanced medical care.
Medical personnel confirmed one fatality at the scene. A helicopter airlifted at least one surviving victim to a trauma center for urgent treatment. Officials have not yet released the names of those involved.
CHP officers secured the crash site, documented the scene, and coordinated with Colusa County Sheriff’s Office personnel. The wreck forced traffic restrictions in the area as emergency crews worked along the shoulder and canal access road near Hahn Road.
Investigators continue to review the cause of the collision, including whether speed, fatigue, or driver impairment played a role in the deadly crash.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
Passenger Liability
Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Personal Injury or Wrongful Death claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming. As a neutral third party, an experienced personal injury attorney can help to navigate these emotional complexities.
