Discovery Bay, CA – On the morning of Thursday, August 14, 2025, a two-vehicle collision left one person dead and another airlifted with major injuries, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 10:20 AM on State Route 4 near Discovery Bay Boulevard.
Officers stated that the crash involved a silver Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a white Toyota sedan. The Silverado left the roadway and went into a ditch while the Toyota came to rest blocking the eastbound lane. Both directions of the highway became blocked, and traffic quickly backed up in the area.
Emergency responders confirmed one fatality at the scene. A second person sustained major head and abdominal injuries, and medical crews requested an air ambulance to transport that individual to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
The crash investigation continues, and officials have not released the identities of the deceased or the injured party. CHP has not yet stated the cause of the collision.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
