Fatal Motorcycle Crash on SR-242 near Grant St, Solano Way in Concord

Concord, CA – On the early morning of Friday, August 15, 2025, a motorcycle collision involving a red Ford Explorer resulted in a fatality, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred around 4:17 AM on State Route 242 near the Grant Street off-ramp and Solano Way.

Authorities said a motorcyclist lost control, spun out, and came to rest in the No. 2 lane, where the red Ford Explorer struck the rider. Witnesses confirmed the collision occurred immediately after the motorcycle went down.

Contra Costa County Fire Department units arrived shortly after 4:10 AM, and all southbound lanes were stopped to allow emergency crews to respond safely. Officers coordinated a traffic break from westbound Highway 4 to manage vehicles approaching the scene, and the Olivera Road on-ramp was temporarily closed.

The Contra Costa County Coroner confirmed the fatality. Authorities have not released the identity of the motorcyclist. The investigation into the factors that led up to the crash is ongoing.

Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.  Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
