Marina, CA – In the late evening of Tuesday, August 5, 2025, a fatal pedestrian collision occurred near the intersection of Country Road G17 and Inter-Garrison Road, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place at approximately 9:57 PM, when emergency communications indicated a female pedestrian was down in the roadway.
Several vehicles were observed stopped at the scene. CHP logs confirmed that a pedestrian had been struck by an unknown vehicle while in the slow lane of traffic. A black Nissan occupied by four individuals was later confirmed to have been involved.
Officers from the Marina Police Department responded to the scene and initiated a full closure of the eastbound lanes on Reservation Road. Emergency responders arrived and coordinated efforts to manage traffic and secure the site of the collision.
By approximately 11:00 PM, family members of the victim were reported to have arrived at the intersection. The roadway remained closed into the early morning hours to allow for investigation and cleanup. County roads personnel and emergency services ensured the area was cleared, and the roadway was fully reopened by around 1:14 AM.
The identity of the deceased individual has not been released by authorities pending notification of next of kin. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
Duty of Care Toward Pedestrians
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim to ensure they get proper medical treatment and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
Partial Liability in Pedestrian Accidents
California Law does not consider pedestrians to have the right-of-way under all circumstances, such as if they attempt to cross outside of a crosswalk. However, motorists are never relieved of the expectation to provide pedestrians with a Duty of Care toward their safety.
It may therefore be determined that a motorist is subject to only partial liability in a pedestrian accident. Should that be the case, they would be financially responsible for the victim’s recovery costs in proportion to their degree of liability.
