Lafayette, CA – In the early morning of Saturday, July 26, 2025, a single-vehicle crash resulted in at least one fatality near the eastbound Pleasant Hill Road off-ramp on State Route 24, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the incident occurred around 4:15 AM, when a vehicle apparently veered off the freeway and came to rest approximately 15 feet from the roadway near Mount Diablo Boulevard.
Fire personnel from the Contra Costa County Fire Department responded and initiated rescue efforts, with at least one individual reported trapped inside the heavily damaged vehicle.
Despite efforts to rescue the occupant, the coroner was notified by 4:52 AM. The exact number of victims has not yet been confirmed. Emergency crews accessed the scene from the freeway and determined that a flatbed tow truck was necessary due to the severity of the damage. The vehicle was later impounded as evidence.
Authorities remained at the scene for several hours conducting the investigation. The identity of the deceased has not been publicly released pending family notification. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
