Madera County, CA – On the night of Sunday, July 20, 2025, a fatal crash involving a black SUV and a utility pole occurred at the intersection of Road 35 and Avenue 14, according to CHP Fatal.
California Highway Patrol CHP dispatchers received reports of a loud collision around 9:19 PM, followed shortly by confirmation that the SUV had struck a power pole. Emergency medical services and fire crews were immediately notified and dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, authorities confirmed one fatality.
PG&E was contacted due to damage sustained by the power infrastructure, and utility crews later shut down the roadway to facilitate pole repairs. Both CALTRANS and CHP personnel remained on-site for extended traffic control and investigation efforts. Evidence collection and towing procedures were initiated late into the night, with the involved vehicle confirmed to have sustained major damage.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been made public. The crash remains under investigation.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
