Alameda County, CA – On the evening of Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a head-on collision resulted in at least one fatality and multiple injuries, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 6:19 PM on State Route 84 just west of Vallecitos Road.
The crash involved a blue Honda Civic and a gray Lexus, which collided head-on and came to rest blocking both eastbound and westbound lanes.
Emergency personnel from multiple agencies, including fire and sheriff’s departments, responded to the scene. At least one person died at the location, and several others suffered injuries.
Due to limited access and the severity of the crash, LifeFlight helicopters transported multiple patients to area hospitals, including facilities in San Jose, Fremont, and Stanford, after nearby helipads were found to be unavailable.
Officials requested a full closure of State Route 84 in both directions. Caltrans was dispatched to provide traffic control, establish a hard closure, and apply absorbent materials to address fluid leaks from the vehicles.
As of 10:15 PM, Caltrans confirmed that the highway had been cleared and all lanes reopened to traffic.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. The accident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
