Concord, CA – On the afternoon of Monday, July 14, 2025, a single-vehicle crash off State Route 4 resulted in fatal injuries to a male driver, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the collision occurred around 12:27 PM on the westbound side of SR-4 near the Willow Pass Road on-ramp in the Bay Point area.
Witnesses stated a red sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to pass other vehicles using the right shoulder before veering off the roadway. The vehicle reportedly became airborne and rolled before landing far from the highway, sparking a vegetation fire. Emergency responders located the vehicle in a remote area beneath SR-4, within a secured military base access zone.
A female witness was heard screaming that a male occupant remained trapped inside the burning vehicle. Fire crews worked to extinguish the flames and access the crash site. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.
Debris from the crash was scattered across multiple lanes, prompting the closure of westbound SR-4 and the issuance of a SigAlert. Authorities worked with Caltrans and military personnel to manage access and cleanup. All lanes were reopened by mid-afternoon.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
