Novato, CA – On the afternoon of Wednesday, July 9, 2025, a multi-vehicle collision resulted in one fatality and multiple damaged vehicles, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred around 1:46 PM on southbound U.S. Highway 101 near the Ignacio Boulevard off-ramp, just south of State Route 37. It involved at least two SUVs and a white van in the fast lane of the southbound highway.
Preliminary information indicates that one of the vehicles, a red SUV, may have lost control, swerving into other lanes and triggering a collision with a silver SUV and a white van.
All three vehicles struck the center divide, and at least one vehicle became disabled and turned sideways, blocking multiple lanes. The red vehicle and another SUV both sustained major front-end damage, and the crash caused significant traffic disruption throughout the afternoon.
First responders arrived on the scene and confirmed that at least one individual had died from injuries sustained in the crash. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Several other occupants were evaluated for injuries, though the number and severity of non-fatal injuries have not been publicly disclosed.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it is not yet known whether speed, mechanical failure, weather conditions, or impairment were contributing factors.
Wrongful Death Claims
Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling. Filing a Wrongful Death claim against those responsible can provide compensation to help with these expenses.
