Fatal Pickup Truck Crash at SR-33, I-5 in Lyoth, Tracy

Tracy, CA – On the afternoon of Thursday, July 4, 2025, in the Lyoth neighborhood of Tracy, a single-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck resulted in fatal injuries, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the collision occurred around 12:07 PM on the southbound State Route 33 off-ramp from northbound Interstate 5.

Authorities stated that a white Toyota Tacoma exited the highway, left the roadway, and overturned into a nearby field approximately 50 feet from the road. The truck reportedly struck a fire hydrant before catching fire.

The flames quickly spread to the surrounding dry grass, prompting a response from the Stockton Fire Department and Cal Fire. A traffic shutdown of the off-ramp was implemented to allow emergency personnel to access and contain the scene safely.

CHP later confirmed at least one fatality. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) was also notified to assist with infrastructure damage and traffic control. The pickup truck, found burned and resting on its side, was recovered by Central Towing after firefighting efforts successfully extinguished the blaze.

The off-ramp was reopened to traffic shortly after 2:00 PM, once the fire was contained and investigative and recovery operations concluded.

Authorities have not yet determined whether speed, impairment, or other factors contributed to the incident.

CHP urges anyone who witnessed the crash or has information related to the event to contact the local office. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
