Oroville, CA – On the afternoon of Thursday, July 4, 2025, a single-vehicle rollover crash along State Route 162 resulted in fatal injuries, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 4:33 PM, west of Oroville.
Emergency personnel responded to reports of a vehicle that had overturned and gone approximately 100 feet down an embankment. The vehicle was found on its roof in the westbound lane with the driver trapped and unresponsive inside. Responding fire crews and paramedics attempted to reach the occupant, but the doors would not open.
The driver was ultimately declared deceased at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
Butte County Fire Department and Butte County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene, with a request made for the county coroner. Meanwhile, air support was called, and a life flight helicopter landed on SR-162 to assist with transporting a juvenile who sustained injuries in the same incident. The child was taken to Enloe Medical Center for treatment, though the extent of the injuries has not been disclosed.
Authorities have not confirmed whether speed, impairment, or environmental factors contributed to the vehicle leaving the roadway.
Witnesses or those with additional information are urged to contact the California Highway Patrol. The crash remains under investigation.
