Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash on East Baker Rd near SR-88 in San Joaquin County

San Joaquin County, CA A driver was killed late Friday night, June 20, 2025, in a fiery single-vehicle crash on East Baker Road near State Route 88, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and emergency crews responded at approximately 10:04 PM to reports of a vehicle fire on the right-hand shoulder of East Baker Road. 

Witnesses reported explosions coming from inside the vehicle, with debris scattered across all lanes of traffic. Additional 911 calls indicated the vehicle had collided with a tree and split into multiple pieces on impact.

Fire personnel arrived to contain the blaze as the vehicle continued to burn, sending projectiles into the roadway. The force of the crash caused significant damage and led to the closure of East Baker Road between Ferguson and Beacher.

The vehicle’s frame was found separated into four major parts, and two flatbed tow trucks were dispatched to remove the wreckage. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office was also notified.

The CHP updated the incident status to a fatal collision shortly after 11:30 PM. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next of kin. 

Authorities have not yet determined whether speed, impairment, or mechanical failure contributed to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
