Contra Costa County, CA – In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 14, 2025, a two-vehicle collision resulted in a fatality and injuries, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the collision occurred shortly after 6:15 AM on westbound State Route 4 near the Laurel Road off-ramp.
A black sedan traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of SR-4 for unknown reasons reportedly collided head-on with a white pickup truck traveling westbound near the Laurel Road off-ramp.
Upon impact, the black sedan came to rest in the center divide, while the white truck blocked lane one. Debris was scattered across the westbound lanes, and the severity of the crash prompted an immediate response from CHP units, the Contra Costa County Fire Department, and Caltrans.
A SigAlert was issued at 6:34 AM, with all westbound lanes blocked east of Laurel Road. Authorities initiated traffic breaks from Contra Loma Boulevard and Lone Tree Way. Eastbound lanes remained open, but westbound traffic was diverted to alternate routes.
One of the involved parties sustained major injuries and was transported to John Muir Medical Center. The second party, however, was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
Caltrans crews responded to clean up roadway debris and assist with the hard closure. By 9:36 AM, the Lone Tree Way on-ramp and all westbound lanes were reopened following completion of the investigation and removal of the wreckage.
CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash, including the possibility of driver impairment or other factors leading to the wrong-way driving. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage is encouraged to contact local authorities.
Wrongful Death Claims
Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling. Filing a Wrongful Death claim against those responsible can provide compensation to help with these expenses.
