Jeep Driver Killed in I-5, Rte-46 Crash in Lost Hills

Lost Hills, CA – In the early evening of Monday, June 2, 2025, a fatal single-vehicle crash involving a white Jeep Compass occurred on southbound Interstate 5 just south of State Route 46, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash was first reported at approximately 6:17 PM, when the vehicle was found off the roadway and down an embankment, not visible from the interstate.

A witness informed authorities that the Jeep had been traveling at a high rate of speed, moved into the slow lane, and then veered off the road, possibly due to a medical emergency or loss of control.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene and confirmed a fatality. The coroner’s office was notified and responded after completing a separate assignment. Recovery crews and Caltrans later closed the #2 lane of I-5 to allow a heavy-duty tow vehicle to retrieve the Jeep.

All lanes were reopened and the scene was cleared by approximately 11:03 PM. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
