Davenport, CA – In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 24, 2025, a single-vehicle rollover crash on southbound State Route 1 resulted in unknown fatalities, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received notice at approximately 3:59 AM regarding a vehicle that had overturned and caught fire in the southbound lanes. Reports indicated that grass along the shoulder had also begun to ignite due to the blaze.
At 4:19 AM, responding personnel relayed that the vehicle, identified as a black 2015 Chrysler 300, may have had individuals inside. The full extent of the occupant count and the injuries sustained remained unclear for several hours.
Cal Fire was called to extinguish the fire and prevent further spread, while tow companies were dispatched for recovery and evidence handling. CHP requested a hard closure of the highway and activated a SigAlert due to the severity of the incident and necessary investigative procedures.
By mid-morning, officials confirmed the presence of fatalities, though the identity of the deceased had not been publicly released. A drone operator was dispatched to assist with scene documentation, and evidence towing operations continued throughout the morning.
The crash remains under investigation. Authorities are working with the coroner’s office to identify the deceased and determine the cause of the incident.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
