Motorcyclist Killed in Crash at Waterman, Sheldon Rd in Elk Grove

Elk Grove, CA – On the night of Saturday, May 17, 2025, a 42-year-old motorcyclist lost his life after crashing into a center median along a roadway in Elk Grove, according to The Sacramento Bee.

The Elk Grove Police Department reports that the fatal accident occurred shortly before 11:00 PM on Waterman Road, just south of Sheldon Road.

Authorities say the man was riding a motorcycle northbound on Waterman Road when, for reasons that remain under investigation, he lost control of the vehicle near the roadway’s center median. The motorcycle then collided forcefully with the divider.

Emergency responders, including officers from the Elk Grove Police Department and fire personnel, arrived at the scene within minutes of the crash being reported. Despite their efforts, the motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the collision, and there were no additional injuries reported.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

At this time, it is not yet known whether drugs, alcohol, speed, or other contributing factors played a role in the crash. The investigation is ongoing, and officers are working to determine the exact cause of the motorcyclist’s loss of control.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
