Stockton, CA – In the early hours of Monday, May 12, 2025, a fatal single-vehicle crash occurred on the French Camp Road on-ramp to northbound Interstate 5, leaving at least one person dead, according to CHP Fatal.
The collision was first reported around 3:15 AM as a vehicle-versus-pole incident, with initial calls indicating the vehicle may have caught fire. Emergency dispatchers quickly notified the Stockton Fire Department, which responded to the scene.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) logs indicate that the on-ramp to I-5 North was closed as officers and fire crews assessed the damage and began their investigation. Authorities confirmed that the vehicle had sustained significant damage, and the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office was notified to dispatch the coroner.. Caltrans was also called to assist with on-ramp closures and any roadway hazards resulting from the crash.
By approximately 5:10 AM, CHP advised that the Medical Examiner had arrived at a separate location where family members had gathered, and the Sheriff’s Office was working to coordinate with them.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the cause and whether speed or other factors were involved.
