Motorcyclist Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash at I-5, US-50 in Sacramento

Sacramento, CA – On the evening of Saturday, May 3, 2025, a motorcyclist was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the southbound Interstate 5 to eastbound U.S. 50 transition, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the collision occurred around 7:36 PM when the rider, reportedly traveling at a high speed, struck a guardrail and was ejected over it. The incident happened near the interchange just north of the transition road, and responding units initially had difficulty locating the rider due to the complex roadway configuration.

Emergency personnel from the Sacramento Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after and confirmed the location of the motorcycle near the Broadway exit. The rider was found deceased near the transition from I-5 South to U.S. 50 East. The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

A traffic break was conducted to allow CHP and fire crews to safely retrieve the motorcycle from the center divide. The roadway was cleared by 9:00 PM, and all units were off the freeway shortly thereafter.

CHP is continuing to investigate the crash. It remains unclear whether drugs, alcohol, or other factors contributed to the fatal incident.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
