Tracy, CA – In the afternoon of Friday, May 2, 2025, a six-vehicle collision on Interstate 580 East near the Corral Hollow Road on-ramp resulted in at least one fatality, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred around 4:06 PM, when a white Toyota Tacoma pickup, a black Toyota sedan, a black Honda Accord, and three other vehicles were involved in a violent chain-reaction collision that left one vehicle disabled across two lanes and debris scattered across all lanes of traffic.
Emergency responders from the Stockton Fire Department and multiple towing companies were dispatched to the scene. At least one person was reported pinned inside a vehicle.
First responders initiated CPR efforts on a victim at the scene, and the California Highway Patrol later confirmed a fatality. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification by the San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office.
Due to the severity of the incident, authorities issued a SigAlert and temporarily shut down sections of eastbound I-580, including the transition road to I-205. Traffic was diverted for several hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage and reopen lanes.
Multiple tow services were called, and the white Toyota Tacoma was removed and impounded. Other individuals involved in the crash were transported to the hospital, including one person suffering a wrist injury and another complaining of neck pain.
The exact cause of the collision remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet stated whether drugs, alcohol, or speed were contributing factors.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
