Kern County, CA – On the evening of Sunday, March 9, 2025, a pedestrian was struck and killed in an accident involving a Toyota Scion, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident occurred at approximately 10:44 PM near the intersection of Norris Road and Rench Road.
Authorities responded to the site of the collision, where they found a gray Toyota Scion stopped on the right-hand shoulder of the roadway.
The incident involved a male pedestrian who was hit by the vehicle, leaving him in the middle of the roadway. Three male individuals were seen exiting the Toyota and standing near the victim. It is unclear if they were involved in the crash or if they witnessed it. Law enforcement and emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene shortly after, but unfortunately, the pedestrian did not survive the impact.
By 10:59 PM, the coroner’s office was notified and began handling the fatality. CHP then arranged for a tow truck to remove the Toyota from the scene for further investigation.
Authorities have not yet released additional details, and it remains uncertain if factors such as speeding, driving under the influence, or distracted driving contributed to the fatal crash. The cause of the accident is still under investigation as CHP works to piece together what led to this unfortunate tragedy.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
