Stanislaus County, CA – On the night of Sunday, March 9, 2025, a single-vehicle collision in French Camp left at least one person dead, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 9:54 PM at the intersection of Howard Road and South Wolfe Road.
Emergency responders arrived after reports that a vehicle had gone off the roadway into a field. A witness told dispatchers that one person had exited the vehicle and was calling for help, while another individual remained trapped inside. CHP initially categorized the crash as a major injury incident, and medical personnel worked to extricate and treat those involved.
Authorities later determined that the crash had caused significant property damage, including the destruction of six walnut trees along the south side of the road.
By 11:34 PM, CHP updated the incident from a major injury collision to a fatality. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. CHP has not yet determined whether impairment, speed, or other factors contributed to the incident.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
