Merced County, CA – Early Thursday morning on February 27, 2025, a head-on collision left one person dead and two others seriously injured, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 2 AM near the intersection of Santa Fe Drive and Avenue 2.
Authorities say a pickup truck was traveling along Santa Fe Drive when it crossed the center divider and veered into the path of an oncoming hatchback. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles, leaving the pickup truck’s driver trapped inside. Emergency responders arrived to find the pickup truck on the right-hand shoulder, showing signs of smoke.
Despite efforts to save the driver of the pickup truck, they were pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants of the hatchback suffered major injuries, including head trauma and possible broken bones, and were transported to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.
First responders, including firefighters and paramedics, worked to stabilize the victims and clear the wreckage. Tow trucks were called to remove both vehicles from the roadway. The crash forced authorities to shut down portions of Santa Fe Drive as investigators worked through the early morning hours to determine what led to the collision.
The CHP has not released the identity of the deceased driver, pending notification of their family. Investigators have not determined whether impairment or speed played a role in the crash. Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the CHP as the investigation remains ongoing.
Personal Injury Claims
After a car accident, victims and their families often deal with unexpected financial burdens, such as medical bills, lost income, and, in the worst cases, burial costs. A Personal Injury Claim allows accident victims to hold the at-fault party financially responsible for their cost of care.
