Williams, CA – On the afternoon of Sunday, February 9, 2025, a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 resulted in the death of a 72-year-old man and the hospitalization of his passenger, according to CBS13.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 1:00 PM on northbound Interstate 5 at the Husted Road offramp, just south of Williams.
Authorities said the driver of a Toyota Highlander veered off the right shoulder for unknown reasons before overcorrecting and rolling back onto the freeway. Emergency responders transported both occupants to a nearby hospital, where the 72-year-old driver succumbed to his injuries. The condition of the passenger has not been released.
Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash. No other vehicles were involved, and the investigation is ongoing.
Single-Vehicle Collisions and Comparative Negligence
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.
California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages. A personal injury attorney can play a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.
