Monterey County, CA – On the morning of Sunday, February 9, 2025, a single-vehicle collision resulted in the death of a 23-year-old Anthony Christian Sullivan of Oxnard in Monterey County, according to KSBW.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 4:04 AM on southbound Highway 101, north of Echo Valley Road.
Authorities say Sullivan was driving a blue Mazda sedan when he veered left and crashed into the center median wall. Sullivan died from his injuries at the scene.
Emergency crews, including CAL FIRE, responded to the crash. CHP is investigating the circumstances leading up to the collision.
Traffic in the area was impacted as officers conducted an investigation and cleared the scene. One lane remained closed for several hours before reopening.
Investigators have not yet determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal accident. This is an ongoing investigation.
Single-Vehicle Collisions and Comparative Negligence
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.
California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages. A personal injury attorney can play a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.
