South Washington Rd, Lucinda Ave Crash Kills Pickup Truck Driver in Keyes

Keyes, CA – In the afternoon of Monday, February 3, 2025, a single-vehicle crash resulted in the death of a man after his pickup left the roadway and struck several trees, according to The Modesto Bee.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 2:56 PM on South Washington Road, north of Lucinda Avenue near Spratling Middle School.

Emergency responders arrived to find a heavily damaged 2003 white Chevrolet pickup that had veered off the east side of the roadway and crashed into an orchard before coming to a stop. The driver, identified only as a man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Law enforcement temporarily closed the roadway between Lucinda Avenue and East Redwood Road while they investigated the scene.

Authorities have not determined what caused the vehicle to leave the road. It remains unclear whether drugs, alcohol, or speed contributed to the crash. Officials also have not confirmed if the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Single-Vehicle Collisions and Comparative Negligence

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.

California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages. A personal injury attorney can play a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.
