Buttonwillow, CA – On Sunday evening, February 2, 2025, a head-on collision resulted in at least one fatality on Highway 58 near Interstate 5, according to KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:57 PM near the eastbound lanes of Highway 58.
Emergency responders arrived to find two vehicles involved in the crash. Authorities shut down multiple lanes as they worked at the scene. The coroner was notified, and both vehicles were taken as evidence.
Officials have not released the identity of the victim or details on any other potential injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Wrongful Death Claims
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Liability rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. A personal injury attorney can play a crucial role in helping victims establish legal responsibility after a traffic accident.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
