Sacramento, CA – On Saturday morning, February 1, 2025, an 81-year-old man using a motorized wheelchair was struck and killed while crossing a street in south Sacramento, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 7:48 AM at the intersection of East Stockton Boulevard and Power Inn Road.
The elderly man was crossing northbound through the intersection in his wheelchair when he was struck by a 2012 white Audi making a left turn from Power Inn Road onto northbound East Stockton Boulevard. Emergency responders arrived to find the man with lacerations to his head, hand, and wrist. He was later pronounced dead due to his injuries.
The driver of the Audi, a 60-year-old woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Investigators have not determined who had the right of way at the time of the collision.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is expected to release the victim’s identity once his family has been notified.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
