Hollister High School Students Brandon Alarcon, 18, Victor Lujan, 17, Anzhel Villegas-Lemus, 17, Killed in San Benito County Crash near Shore, Lake Rd

San Benito County, CA – On Tuesday evening, January 14, 2025, a tragic single-vehicle collision resulted in three Hollister High School students losing their lives, according to KSBW.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident occurred around 6:55 PM on Shore Road, west of Lake Road.

Authorities reported that a vehicle traveling westbound on Shore Road lost control, veered into oncoming traffic, and collided with an eastbound vehicle. The impact claimed the lives of the driver and two rear passengers in the westbound vehicle.

The three victims killed in the crash, all current students at Hollister High School, have been identified by the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office as:

  • Brandon Alarcon, 18
  • Victor Lujan, 17
  • Anzhel Villegas-Lemus, 17

The front-seat passenger of the westbound vehicle, a former Hollister High School student, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle, a woman in her mid-20s, also suffered serious injuries and was transported by helicopter.

The San Benito High School District released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing the impact on students, staff, and the broader community. Counseling and wellness services have been made available to students throughout the week.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it is not yet known if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.

Single-Vehicle Collisions and Passenger Liability

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.

California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages. A personal injury attorney can play a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.

Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Wrongful Death or Personal Injury claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.

A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
