Gabriel Anthony Rodriguez, 24, Charged with DUI after Oswell St, College Ave Crash Injured Woman in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA — According to KGET, 24-year-old Gabriel Anthony Rodriguez of Los Angeles faces felony DUI charges after a crash early Sunday, September 1, 2024, left a woman suffering from multiple injuries.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the crash occurred at the intersection of Oswell Street and College Avenue in east Bakersfield when an Acura MDX, allegedly driven by Rodriguez, ran a red light and collided with a Dodge Dakota.

Investigations indicate that the Acura struck the driver’s side of the Dodge, pinning the woman inside. Firefighters rescued her from the vehicle, and she was treated for a broken left hand and other possible injuries.

Rodriguez admitted to driving the Acura but was reportedly uncooperative during the investigation. According to the CHP, an officer smelled alcohol and began conducting a field sobriety test when Rodriguez became combative, allegedly swearing and stepping on the officer’s foot.

After resisting arrest, Rodriguez was subdued and taken into custody at Lerdo Jail. He faces charges of felony DUI causing injury and misdemeanor resisting arrest.

California DUI Law

Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”

Personal Injury Claims

When the actions of reckless drivers cause others to be injured, the cost of recovery should not fall on their victims. Filing a Personal Injury claim with the at-fault party’s insurance can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.

However, insurance companies often try to deny or minimize claims. That’s why having a knowledgeable personal injury attorney on your side is crucial to securing proper compensation for your injuries.
